REGARDING your report about the £60,000 'anti-rumour mill' department which Blackburn with Darwen Council is to set up (LET, February 28), the misleading information, rumour etc, stems more often than not from council officials and/or councillors in the first place.

If councillors did more door-knocking 12 months of the year instead of just on their annual pilgrimage for our vote, they could then keep their ward members fully updated with the truth on any relevant matters.

It is risible that money can be found in an instant, so to speak, when the ruling Labour group needs a Department of Spin. But in cases of real concern they always cry that the wolf is at the door.

It is high time that these councillors did the job for which they are very well paid and got out of their armchairs to keep their ward members better informed than is the case at present.
