REGARDING your report (LET, March 14) about ten Blackburn councillors threatening to quit Labour if the UK went to war with Iraq without UN backing, they all represented Labour at the last elections, and as such should be prepared to back the party during the current difficult situation regarding Iraq.

Whether or not we agree with what Tony Blair, Jack Straw and the rest of the Cabinet did, we should be 100 per cent behind whatever decision was made because we are British and proud of it.

If these councillors cannot abide by the decisions of the leaders of our country then they should not consider resigning -- they should resign forthwith.

My son serves in the Royal Navy and, whether or not he agrees with the actions of the present government, is proud to serve his country, come what may. It is time for the true British citizens to stand up and be counted.

GRAHAM HARRISON, Livesey Branch Road, Blackburn.
