DANNY Appleby just beat Mike Howard to Radcliffe AC's top finish in the Ogden Reservoir 10k multi-terrain race.

Appleby managed 23rd spot, just ahead of Howard in 25th with their times 44.23 and 44.43 respectively.

Craig Lutener was next in for the club, 68th in 48.06, holding off old stagers Brian Booth in 91st, Alec Steele who was 93rd and Arthur Warren in 94th. Meanwhile in the Trimpell 20-mile race, which attracted a good turn-out from Radcliffe. Michael Aspinall took the honours with an excellent fourth place from 336 finishers, showing terrific stamina to finish this long run in 1 hour 58 min 34 sec.

Mark Emmett's good steady effort earned him 78th place in 2.22.08, while Mike Howard came in 91st in 2.24.23, rounding off a busy weekend in style.

In 110th was Steve Hamer, 2.28.13 representing a pleasing time for him. 117th place in 2.30.25 was a good effort from Brian Booth, also running two races over the weekend, while John McParland's metronome style brought him home 126th in 2.31.58.

Tony Meakin wasn't going to miss out on the fun, the O/45s 2.52.19 for 228th representing good progress for a guy who doubted he could run that far a couple of years ago. In fact, all Radcliffe's runners were well pleased to manage such a long event, especially young Aspinall, who goes from strength to strength.
