I'M amazed by the response of Irene Thornley (Letters, March 20) to my letter pointing out some good things happening in Darwen.
It seems that some folk in Darwen just wish to harp on about the negative aspects.
For Mrs Thornley's information, I do not need glasses (rose-tinted or not!) to see that the countryside in and around Darwen is beautiful.
The 600 jobs created at India Mill are new jobs, not those transferred from Blackburn Town Hall.
Also there were lots of teenagers both in the audience and the cast in the recent 'Calamity Jane' production at Darwen Library Theatre.
If it is arrogant to point out some of the positive things happening in my home town rather than just looking at the negatives then I plead guilty. After all, it is important that we attract businesses, investors and shoppers to our town.
How can this be achieved if only the bad points are stressed all the time?
Councillor DAVE SMITH (Sunnyhurst Ward), Woodbank Avenue, Darwen.
