STAFF from Burnley General Hospital joined fire crews for an exercise to practise fire evacuation techniques.

Over the past few weeks the staff from East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust at Burnley General Hospital have been working with Lancashire Fire and Rescue, from Burnley Fire Station, undertaking numerous practical training sessions.

The training forms part of a rolling fire safety programme implemented by the Trust, aimed to provide staff with the necessary practical skills and knowledge, to provide a safe environment for patients and visitors.

It also promotes good working relations between East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust and the local fire authority.

Former Ward 17 at Burnley General Hospital was the focal point for the training on Friday when staff took part in an exercise and experienced a smoke-filled atmosphere.

Amanda Galawan, trust fire officer, who organised the training sessions was delighted with the outcome and said: "The feedback received from all the participants has been very positive and I would personally like to thank staff within the organisation together with the four crews from Burnley Fire Station for their time and efforts, it is much appreciated."
