BLACKBURN boss Graeme Souness today set his players a target of four more wins in their quest to qualify for Europe.

Rovers head for Fulham tonight knowing a win would put some vital breathing space between them and the posse of clubs currently stacking up behind them in the battle to finish in the top six.

But Souness believes his side must ultimately win at least four of their last seven games to guarantee themselves a place in next season's UEFA Cup.

"We've got seven games left and if we can win four of them then I think we'll be in Europe next season and that is our aim," said Souness.

"Obviously, we'd like to win all seven if we can but if we can't then we want to get as many points as we can because each place in the league is worth a lot of money to us.

"We got 46 points last year and finished 10th and we want to improve on that if at all possible."

Although Souness has set his sights on Europe, the Rovers boss insists he's determined not to make the same mistakes as Fulham, whose League form this season has suffered as a result of their cup commitments during the course of the campaign.

They qualified for the UEFA Cup via the Intertoto but that has meant the Londoners have played a staggering 19 cup ties this season and the extra strain that entails has stretched their resources to the limit.

Souness is, therefore, wary of the dangers of trying to juggle too many competitions but at the same time he also recognises the need to satisfy the supporters' desire for European football.

He also wants to finish as high as he possibly can in the league because that could affect how much he is given to spend in the transfer market this summer.

"Our target is to get as many points as we can from the seven games that we have remaining because a great deal depends on where we finish in the Premier League," said the Rovers boss.

"On the last day of last season we jumped up four places and that was worth the best part of £2 million to the club.

"That's why challenging for anything else other than the Premier League stretches us.

"Being in the Premier League means you can keep the players in your squad, you can attract players to your Academy, and the club is going forward.

"If you're not in it then you end up selling your best players and I think Fulham are a perfect example of what can happen."

Rovers head for Loftus Road hoping to erase the memories of their 5-1 defeat by Newcastle a fortnight ago.

"Obviously, it's now in the record books that we lost 5-1 at Newcastle and it's not a nice taste to have for two weeks.

"Ideally, you want to play as soon as you can after that but we've had to wait a fortnight to get it out of our systems."

Lucas Neill returns to the squad after completing a two game ban and Souness also insists Dwight Yorke is firmly in his starting plans, despite their touchline altercation at St James' Park.

"That won't affect my team selection whatsoever," said Souness. "I don't want a player saying to me 'Thanks. I'm delighted to be coming off.'

"I want people to be upset and sometimes you don't want them to react in a certain way but I understand that because they are professionals.

"Dwight has got pride in his game and he felt that he shouldn't have been taken off and that's how I want my players to be.

"I want them to be unhappy at being substituted."

Rovers will choose from: Friedel, Neill, Gresko, Berg, Short, Flitcroft, Tugay, Dunn, Duff, Cole, Yorke, Sukur, Gillespie, Johansson, Taylor, Grabbi, Ostenstad, Kelly.
