CLITHEROE proved they still have plenty to play for in the final weeks of the season on Saturday.
Although the North West Counties League title is out of reach, runners-up spot is a realistic target and the League Cup final against Mossley represents a great chance of silverware.
And with key players returning from injury, Lee Sculpher's squad still have plenty to prove in the last seven games, and their determination to do this was evident at Alsager.
Gary Jackson set them on their way after four minutes as he picked up a loose ball and drilled a left foot shot into the corner.
The Blues commanded the first half for long periods but couldn't add to the early goal and paid the penalty just before half-time when Alsager equalised with a curling shot beyond goalkeeper Kris Richens.
At this stage it seemed that Clitheroe's recent inability to close out away games would cost them again until Barrie Hart popped up to head home the winner from a corner.
Meanwhile, Carl Greenwood and Neil Reynolds played their first games for more than a year for the reserves at Clitheroe on Saturday.
Greenwood has recovered from a broken leg and Reynolds a cruciate knee injury and played 45 minutes each in a 6-0 victory over Daisy Hill.
Both came through unscathed and will continue their rehabilitation with more reserve team outings between now and the end of the season.
