REGARDING Lorraine Parrington's observation (LET, March 15) traffic calming has made Tockholes Road in Blackburn an eyesore, it may be such, but it is now considerably safer for road users, cyclists, horseriders and walkers, not to mention the children of Tockholes.
All seem to have been regarded as a nuisance by those inconsiderate drivers who used to hurtle through this lovely quiet village as if it were a rural race track.
Perhaps other methods could have been employed, such as speed cameras, but then we would surely be hearing all about the poor downtrodden motorists being made to pay yet again.
Ms Parrington's sister may like to be reminded that a full and comprehensive plan of the traffic calming scheme was posted directly to each and every house in the village, with contact details if further explanation was needed or if the householder wished to object. As the scheme has been implemented without alterations, it would be safe to assume that few took up the opportunity to do so.
