AN Accrington man has been fined £150 for dumping waste meat from his factory in a back alley.
Nadeem Hussain, of Ormerod Street, admitted the charge of depositing waste from his business, Pendle Halal Meat Centre, of Leeds Road, Nelson, when he appeared at Hyndburn Magistrates Court.
The action was brought by Hyndburn Council under section 33 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
An environmental health officer was called to the back alley behind Ormerod Street in January after receiving a complaint, and found several bin bags had been dumped.
The bags were searched and were found to contain items of trade waste relating to Hussain's business.
Hussain told the court he had taken some waste to a household waste disposal centre and meat from his business was taken away by a licensed contractor but could not produce any receipts or documents required by law.
Steve Todd, Hyndburn Council's chief environmental services officer, said: "The council is determined to improve the cleanliness of the back streets in Hyndburn and will prosecute any person who dumps any kind of waste."
