A DRUNKEN man who went on a £1,200 car wrecking spree could remember nothing about it, a court was told.

Burnley Magistrates heard how Adam Kroukamp, 25, had a lot to drink after rowing with his girlfriend and could recall nothing between leaving the pub and ending up arrested.

Kroukamp, of Kelswick Drive, Nelson, admitted possessing cannabis, three counts of damaging cars and asked for nine similar counts of damage to be considered. He was granted a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £65 costs.

Andy Robinson, prosecuting, said at about 11.30pm, on February 21, the defendant had gone down a road near where he lived, breaking wing mirrors off vehicles

When he was arrested, he was found to have on him a small amount of cannabis and admitted it was for his personal use.

Rachel Adamson, defending, said Kroukamp could not remember anything between leaving the pub and being arrested.

He did not recall causing the damage to the cars, but accepted, because of witnesses, he did do it.

The defendant clearly did not want the victims to suffer any loss and had repaid the £1,200 after borrowing the cash from his parents.

Kroukamp had always been in gainful employment but had lost his job about four weeks ago through no fault of his own. He would have to repay the money he had borrowed from his parents.

Miss Adamson added the defendant was not a man who regularly appeared before the courts. He deeply regretted what he had done and had learned a very hard lesson.
