A NEW logo will be unveiled for the Friends of Bold Venture Park, Darwen, at a special event on Thursday.

The occasion will be a feather in the cap for the Friends group and marks a turning point in their establishment.

Dave Page, Blackburn with Darwen parks development officer, said: "We are looking to develop Friends groups for all the parks in Darwen because they are essential to the upkeep of the area. They do such a good job and keep a close eye on work that's going on there."

Friends of Bold Venture, an area near Belgrave Road, have already organised a series of spring-cleans for the park and are looking to attract more members.

Julie Manton, Friends secretary, said: "We are very excited to have a logo and are hoping more people will join in with our events."

The logo, produced by Workhouse Marketing in Ribchester, will be unveiled at an Illustrated Talk of Bold Venture on Thursday at 7.30pm at Darwen Library Theatre.

Lancashire dialect poet Jim Atherton and former parks superintendent John Firth will feature at the event. Tickets cost £5, contact the box office on 01254 706006.
