AN elderly man was left cut and bruised after he was beaten in his own home during a burglary.

The 86-year-old, who police have not named, was attacked after he allowed a man into his Cowell Way home, Blackburn, to use the telephone.

He was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary after the assault at 9.50pm on Saturday but went home after treatment

DS Ian Critchley said: "The burglar asked to use the telephone and then attacked the man, stealing his wallet, cash and the telephone before running off.

"From our point of view this is serious. A very elderly victim has been viciously beaten and attacked in his own premises.

"We want information from the public who may have seen the man responsible or who know who he is."

Anyone with information should call Blackburn police on 01254 51212.
