POLICE investigating an arson attack on a Blackburn mosque say they are not treating it as a racial incident.
The Masjid-E-Zainabia mosque, in Logwood Street, was damaged by fire and smoke on Monday night.
The mosque's secretary Mohammed Hussain was first alerted to the blaze -- which was in the main prayer room -- when fire engines pulled up outside his home, opposite the mosque.
A man was arrested and has been released on police bail.
DCI Neil Smith, said: "We are investigating an arson attack and are currently holding someone in custody.
"We are working closely with the mosque and are keeping them up to date on the progress of the investigation but we are not investigating this attack as a racial incident.
"We believe there has been a conflict between two families linked with the mosque."
Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to ring Blackburn CID on 01254 51212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
