MEMBERS of the Alzheimer's Society are in talks with Blackburn with Darwen Council over the building of a unique home for people with dementia.
The extra care sheltered housing scheme, in Ellenshaw Close, Darwen, will home dementia sufferers together with their families and carers.
The council is working in partnership with Wyre Housing Association to provide the housing.
The Alzheimer's Society will advise the council on the design of the building together with gardens, aids and adaptations.
Coun Sue Reid, lead member for social services, said: "I'm very pleased that the extra care is to be provided, giving older people and their carers a real chance to be supported while letting people retain their dignity."
The home will feature ground-floor flats and bungalows together with care staff availability 24 hours-a-day.
