PIONEERING church social workers in East Lancashire are appealing for volunteers to help families under stress.
Family support volunteers for the Blackburn Diocese assist parents and children who face isolation after a move or parental split.
Peter Nowland, diocesan Family Life Projects manager, said: "Some families, especially those headed by lone parents can be isolated in their community and have little chance of making friends.
"Worries about children their own health and issues at school can all become larger than life. A friendly visitor who can share a cup of tea and chat about these concerns can make all the difference.
"We are not social services, we are volunteers and independent but we put people in touch with other agencies if they need special help."
Families with children aged five to 13 are now being contacted through churches and schools.
Volunteers will receive 12 hours free training and continuing guidance. They are expected to spend two hours a week with a family. To help, contact Lesley Jenkinson on 01254 675872.
