A MAN branded a "menace to young girls" has been jailed for four years for indecently assaulting a 17-year-old on a bus.
George Kenwright, aged 78, from Croft, pleaded guilty to attacking the teenager last December.
The girl had boarded the number 19 bus heading towards Warrington at Leigh bus station at about 3pm on December, Friday 6.
She sat at the back of the bus and Kenwright sat near her. He then performed an indecent act in front of her before assaulting her.
Kenwright was jailed after pleading guilty to indecent assault at a previous hearing in February.
Detectives in Leigh praised the public for their help in apprehending him after a press appeal for information. A number of people contacted the incident room and suggested who was responsible. Within a week, Kenwright had been caught and charged.
Detective Constable Cath Greer from Leigh CID said: "This man is a menace to young girls so we are extremely pleased that he has been removed from the streets.
"The public response to our appeal for information was fantastic. Lots of people rang in and this ultimately helped us to arrest Kenwright quickly. This case is a perfect example of how easily crimes can be solved when police and public work together."
