Having volunteered to pay for their own overnight accommodation for the Exeter game, the team duly obliged by winning the three points in a crucial game.

On Sunday, the second in the series of car boot sales at Gigg Lane was a resounding success. More than 100 pitches were sold and the punters flocked to see what bargains were on offer. All this in spite of problems with the publication of telephone numbers.

One person enjoying the bustle was Derek Boulton, who has taken over a treasurer of Forever Bury from Roger Miles. Derek was treasurer of the old Bury Supporters Association and has had a career in banking. The Society is fortunate to have such a specialist readily available to step into Roger's shoes.

Meanwhile, Player of the Month for March has been voted on and the winner is once again, Michael Nelson, who also won the first vote in January. Runner-up is Lee Connell.

Michael's prize this time is a free photo session at Clive Ingram Photography, Chiswick Drive, Radcliffe. He will receive his award and certification on the pitch before the start of the home game with Carlisle tomorrow.

Next weekend is Easter and a noteworthy time for a number of reasons. On Good Friday, April 18, it is 100 years to the day since Bury beat Derby County in the FA Cup by 6-0. A record which has stood for a century.

Supporters are being asked to join a sponsored walk from Gigg Lane to Spotland, the home of Rochdale FC, on that day to commemorate the occasion and, at the same time, raise funds by means of sponsorship. Intending walkers are requested to register using the form on the sponsor sheets which have been widely distributed.

Anyone who wants to walk, or register, or has any queries, should ring 0161 797 8048 or register on-line at pauline.gaffer@talk21.com.

Incidentally, that 6-0 victory is also being commemorated by a special beer from Leyden Brewery, producers of Forever Bury beer, with the label of SIX-NIL. This strong brew should be on sale at the Forever Beer festival in early May.

Now -- confession time -- Hands up all those who were taken in by Gordon Sorfleet's spoof April Fool's Day story of Robbie the Bobby being transferred, which appeared on the official Bury FC website. It was of course, rubbish, though the hand of Robbie's agent, Alan Lumsden, left fingerprints at the scene.

In fact, Robbie is filling up his diary with engagements away from Gigg Lane. Tomorrow he is at the Warner Village Cinema in Pilsworth at 11am, meeting youngsters attending the local premier of Jungle Book 2. Attractions include a bouncy castle, and the Bury Young Citizen of the Year will be there.

As there is the match at Gigg Lane at 3pm, Robbie will have to swap his football boots for skates, to complete both engagements.

On Sunday, May 4, Robbie is booked to join the Ramsbottom May Festival, travelling to the event in style aboard an East Lancs Railway steam train.
