THE man behind the security arrangements at the Commonwealth Games has been named as second-in-command of Greater Manchester Police.
Assistant Chief Constable Alan Green (52) will take up the post next month on the retirement of the current Deputy Chief Constable Dave McCrone.
A former Haslingden Grammar School pupil, Mr Green played a key role in some of the UK's most high profile policing assignments.
These included ensuring water-tight security arrangements for the opening and closing stadium ceremonies during the Commonwealth Games, as well as dealing with the repercussions of racial disturbances in Oldham last year.
He also leads the anti-street crime initiative Operation Hawk which has helped reduce levels of crime in the county.
