YOUNG musicians from Bury Music Centre enjoyed a fun morning on Saturday and had the chance to show their performing skills to friends and family.

Many of the 300 youngsters who attend lessons there joined in the annual event at their centre on Mersey Drive, Whitefield, watched by many proud parents.

Budding musicians, and their mums and dads, were also invited along to see the work of the group, and sit-in on rehearsals of some of the centre's orchestra groups.

The young people were also watched by Bury Mayor and Mayoress, Councillors John and Stella Smith, and Mrs Smith even tried her hand at conducting one of the performances.

Throughout the morning, youngsters from the various bands, including brass and wind, practised in front of the many visitors.

Bury Music Centre is also arranging an event at Radcliffe Civic Suite to help raise money for one student's trip to Sweden after she was picked to join an orchestra at a special music concert.

French horn player Nicola Holt (15) from March Drive, Brandlesholme, will take part in the international conference of the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles with the National Youth Wind Sinfonia.
