ROVERS defender Henning Berg has hinted that he could be persuaded to carry on playing for another season.
The former Manchester United star is due to retire from the English game and return to Norway when his current contract expires in the summer.
However, the 33-year-old has admitted that he could have second thoughts IF the club tried to persuade him to postpone his retirement plans for a further 12 months.
"If the club were to come up with something then I'd probably consider it," said Berg.
"We've done well in the last few games and obviously I'm very happy with the way things are going at the moment.
"You always have second thoughts but I haven't had any offers from the club so I don't know.
"The most important thing about going back to Norway is for the kids.
"If that situation was to change for any reason then I would look at it.
"But for now, I'm just concentrating on the games we've got coming up."
Berg has been a loyal servant to Rovers during two separate spells at Ewood and he is the only player to have won both Premiership and Worthington Cup winners medals with the club.
But if anything, he's now playing as well as ever, having helped the team to record four clean sheets from their last six outings.
Rovers boss Graeme Souness was again full of praise for his back four on Monday night following another shut-out against Fulham.
But it remains to be seen whether he will try to persuade Berg to stay on for another season.
As I understand it, he is already closing in on a central defensive target with a view to next season.
And with Berg and Craig Short now both in the veteran bracket, Souness may ultimately decide that an influx of younger blood is needed anyway.
In the meantime, Berg and his defensive colleagues are focusing on tomorrow's visit of Charlton.
And with both sides in need of a win to keep their European hopes alive, Berg is anticipating a tough scrap.
"It's going to be a hard game for us," said the Rovers defender.
"Charlton have got a good away record in this league and they've done really well in the last four or five months.
"I know they were well beaten by Leeds last week but that wasn't normal for them so I hope we don't feel the backlash of that.
"It's a bit like when we played West Ham after they'd just got hammered by Manchester United.
"That turned out to be a really hard game for us so we won't be taking them for granted."
Rovers should pick from: Friedel, Neill, Gresko, Berg, Short, Flitcroft, Tugay, Dunn, Duff, Cole, Sukur, Yorke, Grabbi, Ostenstad, Taylor, Johansson, Gillespie, Kelly.
