POLICE are warning people using cash machines in Lancaster to be extra vigilant - after a man was nearly tricked out of his cash card.

The 28-year-old found a 'card-trapping' device in the Natwest cash point in Church Street, Lancaster, after his pin number failed and a man and woman approached him offering advice.

The man is described as around five-feet-10 tall, of Mediterranean appearance, and in his late 20s with short black hair. His accomplice was slim with long dark hair and five feet five inches tall.

Police are studying CCTV footage of the pair and advising people to safeguard their pin number at all times, make sure they are not being watched at cash points and inform the bank immediately if their card is 'swallowed' by the machine.

"This is the first case of its kind in Lancaster. It seems to be an out of town crime and we want to prevent it from happening again," says DS Mark Salisbury.
