IN response to recent letters from Angela Maskell and someone using the pseudonym "Social Conscience", I would like to add my concerns about litter.
I live on Railway Terrace in Elton and recently had a surprise visit from Mr John Slater from Bury Council after I had sent a few emails about the litter. He took the time to walk around the reservoir and the Wellington Street viaduct. I found him very helpful and interested in the beauty of the area.
Alongside the canal on Hinds Lane most litter is generated by children, so the school has a responsibility, while anglers using the reservoir behind Railway Terrace should take home their litter.
I am sure that if fining was taken seriously and more litter collectors were employed on decent pay, then people in Radcliffe and Bury would have something to be proud of. Litter was never this big a problem in the seventies when I was a kid. What happened to respect and discipline?
TRACEY J. SHAW (Mrs),
Railway Terrace, Elton, Bury.
