I REFER to the two letters in this week's Citizen, criticising the comments by Mr Aga in last week's Citizen, re St Annes, I agree with several of his comments.

I have been here for over 35 years (because my husband's work was here) but he died just a few years ago.

When we came here in 1967 we were told that one in three of the population were "senior citizens".

My second comment re the unlikelihood of "seeing the sea".

My son comes to visit me every two months and takes a walk several times during his three or four days "to see if he can see the sea", sometimes he is lucky to see it once, during his visit.

Another point -- re places to have a meal, which I sometimes have done, after shopping on a Saturday, but I agree with Mr Aga's comments and not many to choose from.

As for the 'Cafe Quarter' in Wood Street -- if it were not for the 'conical' thing indicating it I'd never have guessed.

Closed or unoccupied shops in St Annes? On the Crescent alone there are eight empty shops -- I counted them just recently.

Finally, as for the council?

Their policy seems to be "knock it down and build flats". A few months ago someone born in St Annes wrote in the Lytham St Annes Express about several places that used to be in this town -- but not any more -- open air swimming pool, War Memorial Hospital, Theatre, Bingo Clifton and Fylde College, all gone, and now Queen Mary's School and soon to be the town hall -- these were someone elses comments -- not mine.

I have decided that I want to move from here, before I am too old to make such a big decision -- 35 years here is more than enough.

Somebody once said this place should be called 'Windy St Annes'.

I think the two who wrote to the Citizen must be looking through rose-tinted spectacles.
