A TEENAGER from Nelson has been arrested following the death of a 19-year-old student in Manchester.
Jonathan Roberts was walking across a pelican crossing on Oxford Road in Manchester City Centre, at about 4.35 on Monday, March 24 when he was hit by a black Honda Prelude, registration J579 FVG. The car drove away leaving Jonathan lying in the road.
A second year student at UMIST, Jonathan was originally from Shrewsbury. He sustained severe head injuries in the accident and later died in hospital.
The car was found partially burnt out two days later in the Rusholme area of the city.
Inspector Ian Hales, of Greater Manchester Police, who is leading the investigation into Jonathan's death said: "Following several positive leads a number of officers visited an address in Nelson yesterday and arrested an 18-year-old. This man has been released on police bail pending further enquiries until Friday May 23.
"However, we still have a number of enquiries that we still have to follow up within the area and would appreciate any help from local residents.
"Since the death of Jonathan we have released photos of the car involved in the accident and an e-fit of the passenger. I would ask anyone who may have seen this car or recognises the e-fit to please contact our traffic unit at Elizabeth Slinger Road on 0161 856 6108 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
