NIGEL Evans MP has called for action to draw more tourists to East Lancashire and away from the attractions of Blackpool.

The Ribble Valley Tory MP spoke out after he received a Commons answer listing the top 15 tourists attractions in Lancashire.

They revealed that the majority were based in Blackpool.

Mr Evans said:"East Lancashire is one of the most beautiful parts of the United Kingdom and it is a shame that we do not get more tourists to visit it. We must do all we can to attract more of them to East Lancashire.

"The aim is not to compete with Blackpool but show the benefits that East Lancashire can provide to the many millions of tourists that travel to the North West every year.

"We must aim to get some of the millions tourists who travel each year to Blackpool to spend some of their vacation in East Lancashire.

"With rolling countryside such as which can be found in my constituency there is no reason why we can not attract more visitors."
