A DARWEN pop wannabe's dreams could be wrecked if a replacement sponsor isn't found for a London gig with chart-toppers Blazin' Squad.
Rob Sharples, 18, of Crosby Close, Darwen, has his heart set on a future in pop stardom with his band FY8, but sponsors have pulled out at the last minute - leaving him £5,000 shortfall.
With the help of top international song writers - who have worked with the likes of Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys and Blue - the group are looking to attract a label at next month's London gig and hit the big time.
Band manager Andrew Falconer said: "The money is for support touring costs and we have to pay headline acts to appear alongside them.
"Unfortunately our sponsors have pulled out three weeks before the event so we can't do anything to raise the money in such a short time.
"It's a real shame but it seems like we won't be able to go."
The event, to be staged at the 8,000 seater Hammersmith Apollo, is one of the biggest occasions of the boys' career to date.
Andrew said: "This is a massive event in their careers and all the top record labels will be there to sign bands to their labels. It's very difficult for bands outside London to get noticed but these boys had a real chance before the sponsors pulled out."
Rob is currently performing on the CD UK tour. In the past the trio have performed on the same stage as Atomic Kitten, Blue, A1 and even chart-topping sensation, Gareth Gates.
Rob came runner-up to the spiky-haired star on BBCs Steps to the Stars two years ago, which was presented by H and Claire from former pop band Steps.
The teenager, took his GCSEs at St Bede's High School, Blackburn, is studying dance at Preston College.
Rob said: "I love to dance and my ultimate dream is to be a pop star but if it doesn't happen then I'd like to be able to teach dance."
Anyone who is able to offer sponsorship to the band should contact Andrew on 07989 384555.
