A FATHER-of-two who raided both his parents' and his cousin's homes has been sent to detention for eight months.

Burnley Crown Court heard how Michael Boothby, 19, had been banned from his mum and dad's house but they returned from work to find property to the tune of more than £500 missing.

Sentencing, Judge Raymond Bennett said what he had done was "wounding" to his family and the fact the victims were his relations could be seen as an aggravating feature.

Boothby, of Florence Street, Burnley, admitted burglary and asked for one offence to be considered.

Jeremy Grout-Smith, prosecuting, said last September, the defendant struck at the home of his parents and uncle on Beech Crescent, Accrington.

They returned home at 4.30pm to find goods including a mobile telephone, portable television, mini disc player and jewellery -- worth a total of £530 -- had been stolen.

The defendant was arrested on October 8, admitted he was an amphetamine addict and told police he had sold the items to buy drugs. He said he had committed the burglary with another male he wouldn't name.

Boothby also broke into his cousin's home in Blackburn Road, Accrington, and took goods worth £250.

Paul Hague, defending, said magistrates had sent Boothby to jail after his response to a probation programme was disappointing. Since his release from custody, he had had a good report in respect of his licence.
