SCHOOL REPORT: We are a small rural primary school located five miles between Blackburn and Chorley along the A674.

We have a Blackburn phone number, Preston postcode and come within the Chorley district administratively.

Confused? Pupils come from the surrounding area within a five mile radius which includes Blackburn.

PRESENT PUPILS: We only have the best and currently have 93 wonderful learners who want to learn and work hard. School is split into four classes with Reception and Year 1 in one class of 28, Year two of 14, Years 3 and 4 of 28 and Years five and six of 23. Each class has at least one member of support staff and a teacher.

HISTORY LESSON: Thomas Herbert Parke built the school in 1897 and on its 100th anniversary the school celebrated by turning back time. We dressed in Victorian costume, and had a tea party.

OUT AND ABOUT: Our pupils excel at raising money for others. Each harvest we assist peoples of the world by collecting money goods and gifts. Last year we raised more than £400 for the British Heart Foundation. We like to offer extra opportunities for our pupils and take part in as many community events as possible. We do quizzes, play sports and are linked with Blackburn Rovers community team and the Learning Football Scheme, cycling proficiency and a pedestrian training initiative. We also have after school clubs.

SOMETHING TO BRAG ABOUT: We were awarded Beacon Status following our last most successful Ofsted inspection. We have basic skills quality mark. The head teacher was invited to Highgrove to meet His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. Footballer Jason McAteer spent the afternoon with us. The staff are wonderful and the parents are supportive but most of all the pupils are fantastic.

WHAT ABOUT THE PARENTS: They are always there, most supportive, keen to help and always attend monthly Parent Assemblies. They give class support and act as Better Reading Parent Assemblies and Better Reading Partners. Some have celebrated being Parents as Educators and helped in Dads and Lads, Girls and Gals. The PTFA is outstanding and hold annual BBQs, pupils and parent events an annual pantomime trip and more.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH A £100,000 WINDFALL?: Build a gym with a hall. We do not have PE facilities. We hire a local schools hall for gymnastics during the spring term, use all the natural facilities we have round the schools. Year 6 have a great time at PGL but we could do loads more with a hall.
