Leigh East 35 Skirlaugh 28: LEIGH East recorded an excellent win over Hull side Skirlaugh thanks to a last minute try by sub Gary Hopkins followed by a drop goal from Danny Kilshaw.

Skirlaugh went in front for the only time in the first minute when East failed to clear a kick through but after 10 minutes Simon Warhurst crossed for a try goaled by John Woods.

Further tries followed from Darren Hall and Kilshaw but Skirlaugh responded and East only led 16-12 at the break.

The second half was an exciting affair. Both sides scored early on with East's effort coming from Woods who also kicked the goal.

Warhurst then grabbed his second try, again goaled by Woods, to give East what looked to be a convincing 12 point lead. But Skirlaugh had other ideas and two quick tries brought the scores back level at 28-28.

Both sides defended well for the last 20 minutes until until Hopkins' try tipped the game East's way.

Kilshaw deservedly took the man of the match award but was closely followed by Ian Lewis who had an excellent game in the second row.
