YOUNG people were given the chance to tell a Minister exactly what they think of a government advice service in Burnley yesterday.

Ivan Lewis, Minister for Young People and Adult Skills, visited the Connexions centre in Hall Street.

Connexions is a support and advice service for 13 to 19 year olds. It brings together a range of help and support services for young people across England.

During his visit, Mr Lewis, the Minister responsible for Connexions, heard from young people who have benefited from the service.

He also spent time with a number of personal advisers working with teenagers in Burnley.

Connexions offers access to a fully trained personal adviser who can support the young on a range of issues from exams and job applications to other worries like drugs or bullying.

There are currently more than 200 Connexions Personal Advisers in Lancashire alone.

Mr Lewis said: "I was thoroughly impressed with the range of services provided by Connexions to all teenagers in Burnley and by professionals working with and talking to young people who are actually benefiting from the service."

Charlie Hooper, a spokesman for Connexions added: "I was delighted to be welcoming Ivan Lewis to Burnley on Monday and to have the opportunity to show him some of the good work our staff are doing on the ground."
