FOUR teenagers were lucky to escape with their lives after two young arsonists torched their tent as they sat inside.
The incident happened on Thursday night between 11pm and 11.30pm in a field off Nuttall Lane, Ramsbottom.
The four 14-year-olds were inside the tent when a naked flame was used to set fire to the canvas tent.
Police Sgt John Flowers said: "This is a very serious incident and somebody could have even been killed.
"The people who carried out this arson attack obviously didn't think about the consequences their actions could have caused.
"A naked flame, something like matches or a lighter was used to set fire to the tent. I would urge anybody who may have any information about this incident to contact the police."
The boys were not hurt in the incident, but a sleeping bag worth £150 was stolen from the tent.
Two males aged between 16-20 were seen making off across the field wearing combat jackets and trousers and paint ball masks on their faces.
Anybody with information should contact Ramsbottom CID on 0161 856 8150.
