BLACKBURN RUFC under 14s have clinched one of the most prestigious trophies in junior county rugby after beating West Park to win the Lancashire Plate.
Blackburn, nicknamed the Lemons, romped to victory to win 31-7 at Aldwinians RUFC with a committed and gritty all-round performance.
The bigger and stronger West Park side opened the scoring with a quick fire try which was converted from from the corner.
But Blackburn responded with a fantastic try of their own, created by Marc Pemberton's Garyowen and scored by scrum half Arron Hunt with a trademark opportunist try. Pemberton converted.
Inside centre Andrew Coutherd, who had a massive game both attacking and defending, extended Blackburn's lead with another fine try which was again converted by Pemberton.
Blackburn then grabbed a crucial third try just before the break when when fly half Edward Holden rain in a try from 30 metres to give the Lemons a 17-7 lead at the break.
West Park came out gunning for Blackburn in the second half but the front eight absorbed the pressure and helped turn defence in to attack.
Despite losing the influence of Toby Ainsworth, Danny Khan and Scott Holt, the Lemons continued to dominate the game and scored a fourth try when winger Tom Holden took advantage of some slick passing to score a fine try in the corner.
Victory was secured with the best try of the match when Dominic Bury showed his pace to run in from the halfway line.
