THE relatives and girlfriend of 18-year-old Daniel Connor, who died in a road accident in Earby, have backed calls for traffic calming measures on the road where he was killed.
Daniel, of Tyseley Grove, Earby, died of multiple injuries after his car was involved in a head-on collision with a single decker bus in Salterforth Road 11 days ago.
The popular teenager, who had played for Earby Town FC for around three years, had been driving to see his girlfriend, 15-year-old Steph Longbottom in Barnoldswick, when the accident happened.
His family have backed calls, made by neighbours living close to where the incident happened, for something to be done to make the road safer.
His older sister Sheena said: "I agree that something needs to be done. I have had two near run-ins with buses up there because the road is so narrow. One time I heard a crack and looked round and a bus had collided with a woman's car.
"I don't know why they don't do something to the road or have the little wizard-type buses on that route.
"There was a girl knocked down on that road about ten years ago and they started a campaign for something to be done then but nothing happened."
Daniel's girlfriend Steph also agreed that there was not enough room to get past buses and said she had ended up almost in the bushes on several occasions.
His funeral service took place on Tuesday at St Patrick's Church, followed by a burial at Earby Cemetery.
Daniel, who was a pupil at Earby's Springfield Primary School and Park High in Colne, had been doing an apprenticeship as a metal fabricator at CL Fabrications in Colne.
He loved playing football and was a season ticket holder for Burnley FC.
Sheena said: "He always wanted to be a footballer when he was younger but after breaking his leg twice he was told he would never play professionally.
"He loved his car as well. He was supposed to be picking up his new car, a Peugeot 206, on the Friday before he died but they rang to say he couldn't get it until Monday so he never actually got it.
Girlfriend Steph, who had been in a relationship with Daniel for a year and a half, spoke about her boyfriend during the funeral service. She said: "I managed to stay composed until the end when I looked up and could see all these big footballing friends crying. I just spoke about how he nice he was to me and said that I thought the next time I would be in a church would be at our wedding or at our babies christening not his funeral.
