I THINK businessman David Brockbank's proposal for a cross-bay bridge is very good in lots of ways - and certainly far better than having more frequent train services unless massive investment in our railways is forthcoming.

Some hope of that as successive Governments since Dr Beeching have shown.

Perhaps the Heysham end of the bridge could be used to create a sheltered marina, something Morecambe should have had years ago.

The building of shops, apartments and so on at either end of the bridge is also a possibility, as is a safe footway alongside the road all the way across the bay. The scope is endless - so long as a Lancaster western by-pass is created.

By the way, in which century will Morecambe have a decent shopping centre and multi-storey car park? And clean toilets too?
