NEVER have the official weather forecasters for Morecambe been so confident that the forthcoming Easter weekend will be fine, warm and sunny.

So there's never been a better time to avoid the traffic and have a holiday at home - and is there anywhere better to be this Easter?

From Happy Mount Park at one end to Heysham village and heritage centre at the other - and with our breathtaking stone jetty in the middle - we are spoiled for choice.

Can I make a couple of suggestions that even 'Sand-Grownuns' might not yet have experienced.

There's a marvellous new memorial to the resort's very own long distance swimmer on the Breakwater car park near the Battery. Ir rivals even Eric for the title of best memorial in Morecambe.

Commander Gerald Forsberg OBE is shown ploughing through a rough sea with a confident 'crawl' stroke. It is so realistic that you can almost taste the sea salt in his mouth.

The other suggestion is a local train ride from Morecambe station which I believe not even one in 100 Citizen readers will have travelled - I refer to the short but fascinationg journey to the Port of Heysham. It offers lots of familar vistas from unfamiliar angles and glimpses of some of Morecambe's best kept back gardens and allotments.

Something else to be glad about is the pleasing increase in the number of cafes and pubs that have outdoor tables and seating - so we won't miss out on that guaranteed sunshine even when we are taking our morning coffee and afternoon tea.

As for the evening meal, we must have the best fish and chip shops anywhere - with an accompanying panorama across the bay that is unbeatable.
