DAMIEN Hindle's 19th goal of the season was not enough to save Burnley reserves from a last gasp defeat in the derby match at Deepdale last night.

French defender Arthur Gnohere was the one experienced player on show for the Clarets and he was joined by two other players who had played at Portsmouth the previous night, youngsters Matty O'Neill and Richard Chaplow.

Burnley could hardly have got off to a worse start as a defensive mix-up ended with the latter putting the ball into the back of his own net from a high hanging cross.

After the break Chaplow, O'Neill and Hindle did step up the pace and they started to run the show, Chaplow showing the passing ability that has earned him a promotion to the first team squad.

It was no more than they deserved when Hindle scored the equaliser with just 17 minutes left.

Another mistake by Salisbury allowed Preston's giant substitute Fola Onibuje to nod home a simple winner with just five seconds left on the clock.

Ronnie Jepson admitted he was gutted for his players after Burnley reserves lost to a late, late goal at Deepdale last night.

"It was a nothing goal," he complained. "A long throw into the box with just 30 seconds left, the keeper missed it and it was a simple tap in. There was no real threat and it was a sickener.

"All the lads were gutted because they had worked really hard to get back into the game. We were second best in the first half but we bossed the game after the break, we played far better.

"There were a lot of good individual performances in the second half and Damien Hindle got another good goal having missed a one on one before half time."

Jepson's side had just one experienced professional, Arthur Gnohere, in the side and he and a couple of other players had arrived back from Portsmouth in the small hours of yesterday morning.

"I don't know if that contributed to our slow start but we definitely got about the game a lot better after the break," he said. "To lose the game was a real shame after they had put so much effort in to win the game.
