LIVING in Alabama, USA, I check up every so often on the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, having been stationed with the US Army in Blackburn in November, 1944.
I enjoy Helen Mead's columns and Eric Leaver's story (LET, April 2) about that potato chap rang a lot of bells -- I remember the fish and chips buggies and how popular they were.
I was stationed in the cotton mills at Brookhouse just up from Penny Street and the train station. Often, I was the military policeman for the battalion at the depot.
