I WAS shocked to read Sehana Bux's article, 'Watch out! Grannies are driving me mad' (LET, April 4). It was nothing more than a sad example of ageism that served no purpose other than to be blatantly discriminatory against the older car driver.

Her suggestion that it was time to hand out car stickers saying "'Masi' (aunty) or Granny on board" instead of "Child on board" etc., was not amusing, if indeed it was intended to be.

Additionally, what makes Ms Bux think that all elderly ladies are grannies or aunties? The worst drivers I have seen in recent times have been young women: the woman who was putting on her lipstick while driving erratically or the woman who overtook me on the outside lane of the motorway at 80mph while drinking out of a canister.

Additionally, there was the woman I saw earlier this week who did a quick left-turn with one hand on the steering wheel while talking on her mobile with the other hand, or the woman with three children in the back of her car who were obviously not wearing seat belts.

So Ms Bux, who needs the car stickers?
