A DAD with a fear of flying hit the jackpot by watching his daughter's Las Vegas wedding without his feet leaving the ground.
Dr Mohammed Razzaque, medical director at Calderstones Hospital, Whalley, thought his aversion to planes and busy work schedule had thwarted his chances of watching daughter Rebecca marry sweetheart Glyn Thomas.
But his secretary arranged for them to use the broadband internet service at a local cyber cafe to see the couple exchange vows.
Mohammed, a consultant psychiatrist, of Whitehall, Darwen, said: "My wife Rubina and I couldn't make the wedding because of work commitments and to be honest I'm not that keen on flying.
"My son-in-law has three brothers who all have small children and his mum is recovering from an operation, so it didn't look like anyone could attend the wedding. I know my daughter and Glyn were keen to have their family and friends there, so my secretary Sheila Scott suggested watching it on the internet.
"It wasn't going to be possible from Calderstones, so Sheila rang round and the only place she could find with the expertise and technology was the cyber cafe in Clitheroe."
Proprietor Nick Hayes used the latest broadband internet technology to transmit Rebecca's wedding 3,500 miles from the Little Chapel of Flowers in Las Vegas.
Dr Razzaque continued: "Rebecca was waving at the camera just before the ceremony.
"She looked absolutely beautiful and seeing her happy day brought a tear of joy to my eye. After the ceremony, they were serenaded by an Elvis lookalike.
"It was just so fantastic. They were laughing and kissing, and seemed really happy.
"I felt quite depressed that I was going to miss the wedding, but this has more than made up for it. I hope to get a CD recording of it and can't thank Sheila Scott and Nick enough for this."
Dot.com cyber cafe proprietor Nick Hayes said: "The chapel set up a webcam on the ceremony and we were able to receive live pictures.
"I am really pleased with the way it went. It was the first time I've seen this done and the pictures were extremely good quality."
Rebecca, 29, is a former pupil of Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, Blackburn. She and her husband, from Watford, will then return to their jobs as primary school teachers in Harrow.
