Leigh East 22 Lock Lane 23: NOT to long ago Leigh East had ambitions of making the National Conference League Top Five play-offs - not now after successive defeats by East Leeds and Lock Lane.
The midweek game against bottom club East Leeds - already relegated after just one season in the top flight - was a nightmare.
A two-hour coach trip, changing en-route, no warm-up time, no half time and the last 10 minutes played almost total darkness culminated in a shock 28-10 defeat against a side that had only managed four wins all season.
Although their performance against Lock Lane was much better, it still brought a defeat.
Tired legs and minds in both camps resulted in a tame game.
East had much of the early play yet after 32 minutes were 11-0 down to a try, conversion, two penalties and a drop goal. As the half drew to a close. East at last showed some initiative when Kilshaw put a kick through for Gunning to score; a 40/20 kick from Monks gave Gunning the chance to plunder a second and when Warhurst created a try for Meadows, Woods was able to land his second goal.
It was against the run of play when Lock Lane full-back Johnson exposed a defensive weakness, Hardy restoring the visitors lead with the conversion. Woods battled his way for another East try and then he added the touchline conversion but missed tackles from weary defenders let Johnson in for the winner.
