A MAN walking along the street listening to his walkman was shocked when he was confronted by two plain clothes police officers who jumped out of an unmarked car.
Blackburn magistrates heard that psychotic Simon John Mayor wondered what was going on and ended up struggling with the officers, who had to physically restrain him.
Mayor, 30, of Shear Brow, Blackburn, admitted a breach of the peace and was bound over in £100 for six months. Charges of using threatening behaviour and resisting a police officer were withdrawn.
The court heard that the officers stopped their car in Gibraltar Street after seeing Mayor walking on the pavement. He was abusive towards them and had to be physically restrained before being taken to the police station.
Clare Knight, defending, said Mayor was walking along, listening to his walkman and minding his own business when he was confronted by the officers.
"He wasn't aware who they were or why they were stopping him and he panicked," said Miss Knight.
"He suffers from psychosis and admits that as a result he can be a little paranoid."
