Fire crews tackled moorland fires across the region today.
A fresh blaze started on moorland near Burnley Road East in Waterfoot and crews were monitoring on-going fires on moorland in Waddington Fell, Clitheroe, Healey Nab, Chorley, a blaze near Saddle Fell, Chipping which yesterday required six fire appliances, and another near the Long Causeway in Cliviger.
The fires are being made more likely by the extremely dry weather conditions making the risk of peat catching fire, and vegetation being easily set alight, by discarded matches and cigarettes, high.
Moorland in the Trough of Bowland has already been closed off after requests from landowners.
Fire crews were suspended for safety reasons last night during the hours of darkness.
