THE Britannia Coconut Dancers weaved their through the streets of Rossendale on Saturday as part of their centenary celebrations.
The group donned their traditional attire of black make-up and skirts, which is said to originate from the outfits of Moor pirates, for the 100-year-old Boundary Dance.
The Coconutters are believed to have formed when Cornish tin miners came to East Lancashire.
"The miners came to the county to pass on their mining skills, but also taught local men their traditional dances. Group secretary Joe Healey said: "The Cornish miners came to teach men how to quarry stone and brought the dances with them."
The dancers were accompanied by Stacksteads Brass Band.
