PADIHAM did themselves, and BACUP BOROUGH, a big favour on Saturday.

A goal from Thompson gave Graham Haworth's men a 1-0 win at Stone Dominoes to keep themselves in with an outside chance of promotion.

Although Stone are still favourites to get the points they need to go up, Bacup Borough will take a massive step towards denying them the North West Counties Division Two title if they beat them this afternoon.

The top two tussle at Stone is Borough's last game of the season, with manager Brent Peters having already led his side to promotion .

Meanwhile, Padiham go to Leek CSOB, who lost 1-0 at NELSON on Saturday, Andy Haworth scoring the goal.

Today, Nelson's visit to Castleton Gabriels is a 6.15pm kick-off.

Castleton are proving the scourge of East Lancashire at the moment, as not only did they beat Padiham in midweek, but they brought DARWEN'S season to a miserable conclusion on Saturday with a 6-0 win.

Darwen boss Steve Wilkes said: "That was such a disappointing way to end what has been a season of ups and downs.

"We're sixth at the moment but there are a few sides who can sneak past us on the rails."

Meanwhile, GREAT HARWOOD TOWN continued their late surge up the table with a 3-0 success against Holker Old Boys.

The hosts secured sweet revenge for the 5-0 defeat suffered at the hands of Holker in December, and now have one eye on a respectable top six finish.

Their 16-year-old livewire Matt Derbyshire lobbed the visiting keeper just before the break to give Town a deserved lead then shortly after the restart he netted his second .

Prolific strike partner John Eastham bagged the third 12 minutes before the end.

Town boss John Hughes said: "We won quite comfortably in the end and if we manage to claw our way up the table, added to a couple of decent cup runs, his can go down as a pretty successful season."

Today Great Harwood are at home to Blackpool Mechanics.
