A 29-YEAR-OLD man depressed at being made homeless climbed into a compound at Blackburn College and ran amok with a mini-digger causing approximately £8,000 worth of damage.
Blackburn magistrates heard that Philip McAlary rammed walls, doors and windows as he went on a wrecking spree.
And when he had finished McAlary phoned the police and invited them to come and arrest him. McAlary, pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage.
The case was adjourned for one day so that inquiries can be made about finding bail accommodation. Richard Mitcalf, prosecuting, said McAlary had lost his home accommodation and had been drinking excessively.
"It appears he became increasingly frustrated with his circumstances," said Mr Mitcalf.
"Having climbed into an enclosed area, he then climbed on to a mini-digger and proceeded to cause damage to college premises."
Paul Schofield, defending, said McAlary had originally climbed in looking for somewhere to sleep. "It was out of sheer frustration that he set about the buildings," said Mr Schofield.
