WHEN Craig Brown mused after Saturday's victory that his side lacked consistency, its unlikely he expected them to prove him right within 48 hours.
But Selhurst Park has rarely proved to be a happy stomping ground for Preston and their barmy army follwers.
Two goals within five minutes of each other in the second half did the damage for Preston, who are now in 12th place.
It was Neil Shipperley, one half of a strike partnership which has clocked nearly 50 goals this season, who blew Preston out of the water.
First of all he connected with Patrik Agymang's cross to fire home on 59 minutes.
And by 64 minutes he had found the back of the net for a second time.
Shipperley was again on target after Alex Tapp's shot from 20 yards was parried by Jonathan Gould. Shipperley was there to force the ball home.
In fairness, the goals came against the run of play.
After firmly defending in the opening minutes, Preston came into their own as Graham Alexander watched his effort go wide before Gould had to clear Agyemang's cross.
Three quick corners in the second half indicated Preston were on top until Shipperley stepped up a gear.
