THE singer widely recognised as the voice of English folk music will be headlining at Morecambe's Platform next week.

Maddy Prior, best known as the lead singer with folk/rock legends Steeleye Span, has enjoyed a remarkable career spanning more than 30 years.

Maddy, pictured, has worked with musicians of the calibre of Mike Oldfield, Ian Anderson, June Tabor and more recently, The Carnival Band. And she will be at the Platform as part of her 'Lionheart' tour next Thursday, May 1.

A great interpreter of traditional song, Maddy is also a writer whose solo work has stretched the boundaries in the form of extended song cycles that combine her favourite themes of history and tradition.

This tour turns her attention to Richard the Lionheart, with songs that bring to life the world of the crusading king.

She presents the new songs alongside others from her career and is joined by long time collaborators Nick Holland on keyboards and Troy Donockley (Uillean pipes, guitar, citern and whistle) who provide her inspirational voice with a rih backdrop.

This promises to be an evening of enchanting music that has been described recently by the Times as a performance to 'raise hairs on the back of your neck'.

Early booking is advised. Call the Platform on 01524-586823.
