I AM broadly against the projected bridge over Morecambe Bay.
People have been trying to spoil this bay for decades, one way or another, just in order to get to Barrow faster. Before the council lets itself in for this project it should look into it very carefully.
Despite the magic words that are always coughed up that it 'will create thousands of jobs', we have to bear in mind that there are other criteria to consider. Morecambe Bay, whether the locals care about it or not, is one of nature's most precious places.
Also, the view across the bay is breathtaking on a clear day and it would be a great loss to lose it from any point.
I realise that all these things don't count with the people concerned about making money, but they count for some of us. The Council for the Protection of Rural England, for one, should know more detail, before any action is taken.
Of course there may be good reasons for a bridge, but there needs to be a huge amount of consultation before any action is taken.
