AROUND 1,000 homes in parts of Rossendale were plunged into darkness last night after the area suffered a power failure.
Edenfield, Turn Village, Ramsbottom and parts of Shuttleworth near to the Duckworth Arms Pub were affected by the power cut.
The failure was due to a fault on a high voltage cable which was highlighted at 9.15pm.
Some people were re-connected by 10.40pm with the remaining 108 homes being reconnected by 5am.
A spokesman for United Utilities said workmen were at the scene immediately to get people reconnected to their power supply.
He added: "The power failure was caused by a fault on a high voltage cable at 9.15pm.
"We sent a team of linesmen and engineers out to the site immediately who were working throughout the night to get everyone back on.
"Around 1,000 homes were effected by power failure and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.
"Most people were back on by 10.40pm, with the last remaining 108 homes being back on by 5am in time for their breakfast."
