A POPULAR multi-purpose games area in Nelson has been closed due to health and safety reasons and to allow a full assessment of improvement work to be carried out.
The site at Netherfield Road needs a new surface, fencing and floodlighting due to heavy use and some vandalism.
In the interests of health and safety, the council has decided to close the games area to allow a proper assessment of the work needed to be carried out.
The council has yet to identify funding for the improvement work.
Colin Patten, manager of the council's parks, cemeteries and outdoor recreation department, said: "This is one of the most popular multi-purpose games areas in Pendle. The surface is pretty worn out due to the level of use. In the interests of health and safety, we thought it was better to close this site while funding is identified and the improvement work is carried out."
